Fisherman Catches Giant Cat Fish With Whiskas!
If your trying to sell an Affiliate product or your own you have to get your readers attention Fast!
And the way to do that is by creating a Headline that grabs their attention like a glass of water in the middle of the desert!
You have to remember that the main purpose of your headline is too state in clear terms what you are offering your customers!
The average person is bombarded with over 3,150 sales messages every day, so its very important to include a benefit so as to encourage the reader to complete the whole of the sales message.
But as you well know it is essential to narrow down your niche to give you any chance of success.
One of the most memorable headlines writtain here in the Uk was in The Sun Newspaper many years ago ! The headline was “Freddie Star Ate My Hamster” I have enclosed a picture of the front of the newspaper just below!
In my opinion it sounded a silly headline at the time, however it created so much outrage and dis-belief that the newspapers sales increased amazingly, with both the tv and radio stations following up with the story plus competing newspapers/magazines too!
Was the story true?
Probable not!
But it created immense interest, so the newspaper won hands down!
It also helped lift British comedien Freddie Stars career too!
Remember no matter what your offer is only a small percentage of the worlds population will be interested in it.
For instance you would,nt market cat food to a deep sea fisherman “ unless he was fishing for cat fish!” I know a bit corny , but at least you get my point!
The very first advert I used for my landscape/gardening business , I used the headline “Tired of Gardening” this advert started my business off and since then I have had to do very little advertising as most of my business now comes from refer-alls ( I will cover this in a later post)
I am convinced the reason that the advert was successful was due to the heading! People reading it were looking out at there own garden, or their partner saw the ad and persuaded their other half to give me a call!
You see the majority of company’s use their company’s name as the headline and do not look for a headline that sells a benefit.
Whatever business you are in or looking to start, you need to find a hook in the headline, so that you can catch your readers attention so that you can reel them into the rest of your sales message/advert.
Try to write out at least 50 different headlines, this may take a few days ( the first few are easy) keep a notebook with you because you never know when a gold nugget will pop into your mind, write down every headline that comes into your head, because if you don’t use it for your main headline, you can always use it for sub headings or bullet points, or by slightly adjusting to wording for another article or sales message!
Its a proven fact, that people live such busy lives that you have less than 5 seconds to capture their attention ( So HEADLINES really do make a BIG difference)
Well that,s all for now folks!
Have a Great Headline Day!

This is very interesting, Nick. I do like the headline to actually give me some indication of what is contained within though. Sometimes I think it has very little to do with the content and I only read a very small part of what is written.
Enjoy the journey.

Spot on Nick, your own headline was simple and to the point, and it worked.
With so many messages out there vying for our attention it’s essential to stand out from the crowd. It’s amazing how many do not sell the benefits and think a business name will seal the deal for them.

Hi Bill
The headline was simple but it worked ! and brought me in no end of work for over a year without changing it at all!
I have learnt so much more now though and will change headings dependant on the season more!
All the best

Great post Nick and you are most definitely right! It’s the headline that’s going to grab your attention. Then of course, I will read just a little of the beginning to see if it entices me at all. Continuing to come up with great headlines that really pull is the real challenge. But, I hope that I’m getting better at it as time goes by.
Appreciate your post and will look forward to your updates.
Best to you,
Adrienne

Hi Adrienne
I tend to write my post first, and then look to see if there is a decent headline that I have created within the text, and if not I will create one that I feel fits with the post, obviously I cheated a little with this post, but I did mention hook and fish lol

Hey Nick,
SO SO TRUE!
You know it’s all part of the A.I.D.A process, the titles the hook, that will pull the reader into the start of the sales funnel!
But in the online world, it’s also crucial to make sure you use the best search terms within your title that people use to find the topic you are looking for!
Remember the more eyeballs on your title the more people WILL be drawn into your sales funnel.
Great post Nick….Ed.
Hi Ed
Many thanks for your post, and your right we also need to make sure that we have the right key words included in our title so that it gets listed in the search engines!

Hi Nick,
one of the great ways (apart form the shock headline) to get people to open my e-mails is the following “Subscriber Appreciation Gift NO OPTIN” you will be amazed at the responce!
Cheers

Hi Nick,
“A Headline that sells a benefit” That was my ahaa moment for this post!
I don’t think I have ever thought of headlines quite like that.
I agree with John on using our keywords in our headlines. I do believe you are able to attract more people that way, however I guess all we have to do is be a little creative on how we word a benefit into it.
I also like Rob’s title! Plus I agree with that. I really hate the adswap emails.
Hope everything is going great.
See you back here soon!
Cheers

Hi Jacinta
Normally I would look to put the key words oand a benefeit in the headlines! but I was just trying to show how sometimes a creative headline can get the readers attention!
The idea was that in the middle of the article I wrote about hooking your customer to real them into reading to the end, hence the headline”Fisherman Catches Giant Cat Fish With Whiskas” whiskas being a Cat food here in the Uk lol,
So I guess in this instance my experiment did not work ?
Thats the great thing about Internet marketing, if it doesnt work we can always keep trying other hooks! (Headlines)
Hope all is well with you and your daughter!
