Life is a Journey!

What a lovely few days we are having here in the Cotswolds, well no work yesterday, so I thought I would go for a nice walk out in the lovely country side, As I have said before I live on the edge of the Cotswolds near Burford, But yesterday I took a short drive over to a small hamlet called Chimney just outside of Aston,

I have walked here before but not for about a year, and yesterday I decided to take a new route! well about 30 mins into the walk after walking through some lovely meadows that were awash with Cowslips with there dainty flowers I came to a halt, my path was blocked by a very deep and fast flowing River Thames, I checked my map, thinking I had taken a wrong turn, but no! I was on the right path and the footpath crossed the river” apperently most of the year you can cross the river here ” but not today! it was about 3ft deep and flowing very fast!

So I checked out my map, and found myself another route using a permisive path( thats one that the farmer allows you to take) it took me along a smaller river (Brook) that actually starts out not far from where I was brought up as a child at Clanfield Oxfordshire, still on with the story , whilst walking along there was some thick under growth near to the River bank when I disturbed what I initially thought was an old dog fox, but no it wasnt! it was a wild boar! I had not seen one in this area for over 30 years, thankfully it ran away from me, because you do not want to end up face to face with one of them!

As I got back to the lane I checked my map and decided to take another route I had not walked before, and after about a mile I crossed the Thames by a wooden bridge that the farmers used for moving there cattle and machinery, after crossing the bridge I came into 2 smaller meadows where they had dug out some water channels for the water fowl to breed and feed, it was lovely there! no noise except the sounds of the birds and the rustling of the trees, I was heading along an old bridal path heading toward another small hamlet called Duxford , when once again my path wa obstructed by the raging waters of the River, which was far too fast and deep to cross! So I took a break !ate my banana and had a drink of juice , and just sat and let my thoughts wander, I was sat in a small wooded area and I could here the tap, tap, tap sound of a wood pecker, I sat very still and the woodpecker was only a few yards from me, high up in the trees looking for bugs to eat,

I continued on my walk once again making a diversion to get around the obstacle that nature had put in my way, it was a great day, I met some lovely people that were also out enjoying there time in the country!

When I got back to the car a lady was sat in her vehicle busy writing a letter enjoying the peace and quite, just like I had on my walk!

After I got home I reflected on my mornings walk, to see what I had learnt!

I had learnt to adjust my route should I find any obstacles in my way! too enjoy the lovely countryside that we are blessed with, to accept that not all is as it seems! and that sometimes we need to make adjustments, but most of all , too enjoy our journey through life, to find time for ourselves during our busy lives and too never give up on our dreams!

Life is a Journey enjoy it!

Have a great day!

Nick

  1. Hi Nick,
I love this kind of post. The last paragraph is so true. I am trying to give my Saturdays and Sundays completely to my family and stay away from my laptop, going out for walks enjoying simple things that are everywhere around us.

Back to your question on my blog…I have not heard of the website you mentioned but I had a look and it seems interesting site. I started on my own, did some work for couple of friends, both have offline businesses and from there the things started to move forward.
I am planning a 2-day workshop for local businesses owners in May in Bury and we’ll see how it’s gonna go….
    Keep in touch,
    Gordan

  7. Hi Nick,

Lovely post and a great analogy. It was very pleasant following your walk with you.

    Enjoy the journey.

  8. Hi Nick

Your walk seems to have done you more good than many workshops could have. You seem to have formed some very fundamental and empowering conclusions. Isn’t it strange how we are paid in kind by doing the right thing? You like many of us on the course, could have wasted the day sweating over a hot laptop.

    Best, Theresa

  9. Hi Mandy

  10. Hi Theresa

I have to be honest I havent been to a workshop with regards to Internet Marketing at all! so going for a walk will have to do! I find that it helps me to clear my mind and to put every thing into perspective!

  11. Hi Nick
Thank you for a relaxing post. After reading your blog post I fell like I had been enjoying the countryside myself. I like English countryside. Here in Lancashire, where I am living, typical scenery is hills covered by sheep and sunshine through clouds. Yes, we had some lovely weather last weekend.
Thank you for visiting my blog.
    Regards,
    Irina Overy

  14. Hi Nick

Your description of your English countryside sounds like a guidebook! And I like you analogy with life’s obstacles. There’s always a fast flowing river to sweep us away if we’re not careful.

    Enjoy the journey!

    Anthony

  15. Hi Cormac

  21. Hi Nick,
What a lovely post. You are right, it is important to take time out away from business, just to spend time with family and enjoy the environment we live in. A great idea to be a tourist in your own area.
    Cheers
    Janice

  22. Hi Janice

Many of us forget to enjoy what is right on our doorsteps! A few years ago my brother and his family visited from the USA and I had the pleasure of showing them our great countryside and historical places! We just need to make the time to enjoy what we have!

    Thanks for popping bye!

    Nick
