Loving My Android Phone!

Can you remember the first mobile phone you got? Well I can , it was one of those carry over your shoulder jobs that my boss got me so that he could keep an eye on me( of course he said it was for my benefit) to be honest except for the size of the damn thing and the lack of a good signal (what’s changed) it was useful at times, especially for informing a customer that I was running a little late for our appointment!

How times have changed, the majority of us have a real up to date mini computer with us most of the time which can be very helpful but also very annoying if you leave it on whilst your working, it always rings at the wrong time and interrupts your flow!

I have just got one of those HTC android phones and you can do more with it than I could with my first computer, in fact I still haven’t learnt how to use all the functions that it has, thankfully I have learnt how to use it as a phone lol!

Can you remember when you patiently waited for the postman to arrive with the days post, to see who had writtain to you that day! ( I know mostly bills) but that’s still the same today, in fact its mostly bills and sales letters that drop through my box!

And what’s all this Face-book stuff, yes I have an account and use it mainly for staying in contact with my family in the USA and keeping up with my friends, but some of the stuff that gets posted up makes me cringe ( why would you want anybody to know what you did in bed?) the mind boggles!

And then there’s this Twitter thing! A message service which only allows you 140 characters per post! What’s that all about? But yes I have one of those too! (Am I sad or what?) we are told as Internet entrepreneurs that we need all of these ways to communicate with our customers/followers ( Now I am getting into religion) I thought it was only Jesus that had followers?

I came across this video the other day and it really struck a cord with me! See what you think

I love to watch my daughters expressions when she is texting on her phone or writing on face-book, you can tell if she is happy, annoyed, engrossed and many other feelings I am sure!

Do we love our phone and our Apps more than we do people? I just wonder how far technology will go before the human race becomes extinct!

I remember watching Star Trek with all of the make believe technology they used in the show! Well many of those gadgets we are using today in some way, good but scary!

Well back to work to have a Twitter with my Face-book and Stummble upon I hope you Digg this post!

Have a great Day

Nick

  1. I remember the first mobiles Nick, they were the size of a house brick. It was a few years before I ‘got with it’ and fortunately by then they were a reasonable size.

As long as I can make and receive calls, that will do for me, I
don’t want or need to carry a mini computer around. In fact since I retired I receive few calls anyway.

Like yourself I have Facebook and Twitter accounts but have never used FB and only occasionally use Twitter. I can’t understand this modern urge to constantly comunicate, it baffles me.

  2. The problem is bill, once they brought the drink drive laws in , many of us didnt travel around visiting new pubs and making new friends, so now its all about social media and a drink at home lol unless you walk of course!

If we want to progress with our internet journey we will just have to get on the train with the rest of the guys and gals I guess!

  3. Hey Nick

    Apple is the future :)
Great to hear you are enjoying your tech, things have moved on a long way.

I remember the briefcase phones..then you had the brick.. and they cost a fortune. In the early days there was the stigma attached to having a mobile phone…now everybody has one, I wonder what those people think now? :)

  4. Hi Zahid

They were expensive, and damn heavy compared to what we use today! and your right many people thought it was a passing fad that would soon end( a bit like Rock and Roll)

  5. Hey Nick,

My first mobile phone, was a Sagem horrible to use just a simple little model that wouldn’t get a look in today compared to the most basic modern model!

I think it’s more of another way to interact with society, I’m afraid it’s the nature of the technology beast!

    Great post Nick…Ed.

  6. Hi Ed

In the end its upto us if we leave it on and keep playing with it during the day! If we do then no work gets done at all!

I asked my son how many texts he sent during a day and he said around 70-100 just think what you could do with that time, plus that didnt include surfing on the net or playing games

  7. That was a clever video Nick, It’s the way we are going.

I had a housebrick sized car phone, when I thought I was a yuppie. I only got myself a mobile phone a few years ago, but I hardly ever use it.

I’ve only got it because on a walking holiday with four friends, we got split up in a large town, and it was easier to find each other with a mobile phone.

Phones are not natural forms of communication because you miss out a large part – body language.

  8. Hey Nick,

I also remember my first phone. It was the size of a brick and almost that heavy too! Oh, those were the days.

But I’m also kind of in the dark ages to some degree. I have a cell but only really use it for emergencies. I work at home, I’m always at home so people can call me at home. When I’m out and about, I don’t want to be on the phone constantly. If people really want to talk to me they will leave a message. I’ll get back to them when I’m available and have the time to dedicate just to them.

I also don’t have a laptop. Couple reasons for that but mainly because I’m not traveling enough at the moment to need to take my work with me. That will come though so it’s on my list of things to acquire in the future.

Have heard though how cool modern technology continues to become and I’ll eventually get on that bandwagon. Thanks for sharing this enjoying post with us. Love your sense of humor!

  10. Hi Adrienne

I just use my phone for work, but sometimes I get down time due to the rain, and this new internet phone allows me to write my blog/add photos which allows me to be more productive!

As we get older it gets harder to embrace new technology but if we want to stay on top of Internet advances we have to bite the bullet (Digg it ) lol

  11. Hi Nick, very funny post. Yes I had a brick too, and you had to take the battery out to charge it, that in itself was a brick! I find them too small now, my nieces and nephews have Blackberry phones and they’re pretty weird. I just want to make and receive calls on mine, maybe send a text from time to time. Technology, way beyond me.

    Enjoy the journey.

  12. Hi Mandy

My new phone is brilliant for me, as it allows me to take photos , record voice messages, send and receive emails search the internet, infact everything and more, only trouble is it doesnt print money just yet lol

It took me ages to be brave enough to buy one, and probable a week to learn how to use some of the functions, but it still works just like a phone too!

So go for it and buy one

  13. Hi Nick,

Technology, Wow! Where is it going? Pretty soon perhaps we can perhaps beam over to each others houses and say hi.

Maybe even get some work done in person and then beam over to other marketers houses.
